Rep. Farenthold is a member of the House Transportation Committee, which is expected to vote on the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act this Thursday, a bill that in its current state eliminates crucial funds for biking and walking. National bike advocates and several Congressional leaders have worked out an amendment, offered by Rep. Tom Petri (R – Wisconsin) , that would continue funding for biking and walking — an essential move to ensure more bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails in your area. Use these Talking points:
See examples of putting it all together: Dear Rep. Farenthold, I’m a resident of Corpus Christi. I own a bike shop and I’m a member of BikeTexas. Continued dedicated funding for walking and biking programs such as Transportation Enhancements is very important to me because my livelihood depends on people being able to safely walk and bike around town. Also, I want Corpus Christi to be an attractive place to live, and this means good quality of life, for which walking and biking is essential. Will you continue to support dedicated funding for walking and biking so the economy in our district can continue to thrive? Thank you for serving District 27. Dear Rep. Farenthold, I’m a resident of Brownsville. I teach 5th grade and I organize Bike and Walk to School Day each year. I’m also a member of BikeTexas. Dedicated funding for walking and biking programs such as Safe Routes to School is very important to mebecause each year I see more and more children coming to school overweight, and having trouble learning and achieving in the classroom. More and more I hear parents are scared to let their kids walk and bike to school. We need better options for our children to be able to fight this obesity epidemic. Will you support an amendment to the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act to ensure dedicated funding for biking and walking? Thank you for serving District 27.
Don’t delay, your call could make all the difference for continued funding for Safe Routes to School and Transportation Enhancements projects here in Texas – critical programs like build bike lines, multi-use trails, and support active transportation throughout the state!
Sincerely, Executive Director
BikeTexas
